BYRE KIDS TAKE PART IN SUMMER YOUTH MUSIC THEATRE 13th Jul 2010
AS WORK continues to convince Creative Scotland to re-think plans to cut funding for the Byre Theatre in St Andrews, the venue just keeps on doing what it does best.
After last year's successful residencies, Annie & West Side Story, Youth Music Theatre Scotland returns to the Byre Theatre in St Andrews with two more excellent summer residencies, Hansel & Gretel and Les Miserables.
Said Byre Theatre Chief Executive Jacqueline McKay: “The Byre, in partnership with Scottish Youth Music Theatre (YMTS) is delivering a 5-star performing arts summer school for young people.
“Hansel and Gretel and Les Miserables is a two-hander of music theatre for young people to develop their vocal and performance talents, not to mention having great fun doing it. There are a few places left but hurry! We’re delighted to be working with SYMT again – they have a real knack of engaging with young people of all ages and producing fantastic ensemble results for everyone to enjoy.”
Established in 2006, YMTS offers intense workshop and production projects for young people aged six to 19 years across Scotland during school holidays. As well as encouraging young people in performance, YMTS runs intern projects with those interested in the technical and production sides of theatre.
The company puts on full-length productions with older casts, and offers Junior versions of well-known productions for the younger age group. Those projects focus on the workshop process and participant development, placing less emphasis on the final production. Anyone can take part and entry to the company is unauditioned.
