ELIE CHAIN WALK RESTORED Published: 3rd Jun 2010
A POPULAR route near St Andrews, out of action since April after being targeted by vandals, has been re-opened.
The Fife Council-maintained Chain Walk at Elie, has been repaired. It sustained more than £8000-worth of damage in April, when around two thirds of the chains were cut and stolen, leaving much of the walk out of action for the majority of visitors to the area.
Bill Wilson, the local authority's Countryside, Leisure & Cultural Services team leader told St Andrews News: "I am pleased to be able to confirm that the work on repairing the Chain Walk is now complete.
“I would like to thank all those who have supported and encouraged the restoration of this unique coastal feature. I hope the Chain Walk will continue to thrill and challenge future generations of Fifers and Fife visitors for many years to come.”
Rock work specialists CAN, carried out the restoration work on the route which has been repaired using heavier fittings.
