OPEN SEASON FOR LINKS TICKET Published: 17th Nov 2009
CHANGES to the much sought-after St Andrews yearly Links Ticket allowing concessionary play on the town's famous golf courses have been introduced.
In years gone by, the sometimes confusing list and the length of time it took for a golfer to gain a 'Links Ticket' after joining it have been criticised.
Some golfers, living outside the town but belonging to St Andrews golf clubs, (which do not have courses of their own, but play over the public links) virtually had to 'pay and play' for years or rely on friends who did have tickets taking them out for a round, before receiving their own ticket.
From April 1, 2010, however, a new unified waiting list for all categories of ticket will be in place. Course administrator, St Andrews Links Trust, says that will ensure golfers have: “A fair and equal chance,” to obtain the most suitable ticket for them.
Golfers who want to secure their place in the new waiting list are being reminded by the Links Trust that they shouldn't delay.
An application form can be downloaded from the trust's website www.standrews.org.uk
Golfers wishing to be placed on the waiting list should complete the following application form and email it to reservations@standrews.org.uk.
Ticket categories are:
-
NEF for residents of North East Fife outwith St Andrews who are members of a golf club in St Andrews
-
ORD (Ordinary) for those living outwith North East Fife who are members of a golf club in St Andrews
-
OLT (Open Links Tickets) for those living outwith St Andrews who are not members of a golf club in St Andrews
Separate limits on the number of NEF, ORD and OLT tickets issued will no longer apply, and instead there will be a cap on the combined number of tickets in these categories, with the golfer's position on the list being set in order of the date they first joined the waiting list.
Said a Trust spokesman: “The change is anticipated to benefit many OLT ticket holders, and may also benefit a small number of current holders of ORD tickets who live within the NEF area. It will have no effect on holders of RES or NEF tickets. It is expected that this change will increase the number of NEF and ORD tickets in existence from 1330 to over 1400."
Trustees will ballot applicants to the list in early December. New entrants are required to pay a £100 non-refundable deposit, which will be redeemed against the issue of a yearly ticket when their name reaches the top of the list.
