Published: 12th Jul 2010

Sara with her trophiesA NINE-YEAR-OLD St Andrews schoolgirl is showing she's got the edge on the competition when it comes to skating.

Sara Keracher (pictured with her winners' shield and cup) travelled to Hull last weekend to compete in the Hull IJS Open Figure Skating Competition a national event, drawing skaters from all over the UK and open to all ages.

Sara was entered in the Level 3 ladies event, having only competed once before at that level and beat 17 other competitors to secure first place, even beating her own previous personal best score.

Coached by David Mumby, she has skated for Dundee Ice Skating club (DISC), which is home to the British Men's Senior Champion for the past two years.

The win was made more special as it was on David's home turf. He originates from the City of Hull.

Sara will now go on to compete next month at the Open competition in Ayr at level 4 ladies.
